Bring Science Alive! 6th Grade Integrated
Bring Science Alive!

6th Grade Integrated

Why does a person sweat while a dog pants? Students build a model to answer questions like that one, revising it as they work through Earth science, life science, and engineering, until it explains the phenomenon.

What Students Will Explore

Integrated Segment 1

Systems and Subsystems in Earth and Life Science

Systems and subsystems connect Earth science and life science, starting with a question about sunburn. Students design gear for extreme weather while studying the atmosphere, heat transfer, and solar energy, then model a synthetic cell and test whether it is alive.

Integrated Segment 2

Earth Systems, Weather, and Organisms

Earth systems, weather, and organisms open with why a person sweats and a dog pants on a summer walk. Students take on roles at NOAA forecasting severe weather, plan an eco-tour of Madagascar around unique traits, and diagnose four patients using body systems evidence.

Integrated Segment 3

Regional Climates, Global Warming, and Living Systems

Regional climates, global warming, and living systems begin with drought-resistant soybeans. Students study climate patterns, ocean currents, and a century of temperature change, then work with genes and mutations to build a plan for saving coral reefs and to weigh genetic engineering.

Student Materials

  • Reference Text

The Reference Text provides students with rich background knowledge and context to support their science investigations. Engaging text weaves in engineering content that connects directly to Unit Storylines and Anchoring Phenomena, helping students think and work like scientists. Also available in Spanish.

  • Interactive Student Notebook

The print consumable Interactive Student Notebook provides students a place to record observations, graph data, construct arguments, and more during investigations and engineering challenges. Also available in Spanish.

Teacher Materials

  • Clear plastic storage box with purple handles, labeled Bring Science Alive! on the side, contains classroom materials.

    Ready-to-Use Kit

Bring Science Alive! comes with ready-to-use Materials Kits that support in-class investigations. Kits are thoughtfully organized for ease of use and to reduce waste. If you run low on consumable materials, order a refill kit from TCI's online store.

Reviews & Recognition

At TCI, we don't just say our programs work — we invite independent reviewers to put them to the test. Our social studies and science programs are reviewed by respected third-party organizations that analyze our resources for quality, effectiveness, and alignment with standards.

In addition to national recognition, our programs are reviewed and approved by individual states to ensure they meet specific requirements and standards. We also participate in landscape analyses that compare our offerings with those of other leading programs, so educators and districts can make informed choices.
