Bring Science Alive! Exploring Science Practices Grade 1
Bring Science Alive!

Exploring Science Practices Grade 1

First graders investigate light, sound, and the needs of plants and animals, discovering how science explains what they see and hear every day—connecting everyday phenomena to real scientific ideas.

What Students Will Explore

Unit 1

Plant and Animal Parts

Let's see different animal families on a safari! Find out how young animals and plants are like their parents. Then use what you know to lead a safari in your own neighborhood.

Unit 2

Light and Sound

Have you ever been camping? Campers spend the night in tents. Why do things look different at night? What makes the night sounds? Let's explore these questions!

Unit 3

Sky Patterns

Detectives make careful observations and find patterns to solve a case. You will be a space detective to solve the mystery of the daytime moon.

At TCI, we don't just say our programs work — we invite independent reviewers to put them to the test. Our social studies and science programs are reviewed by respected third-party organizations that analyze our resources for quality, effectiveness, and alignment with standards.

In addition to national recognition, our programs are reviewed and approved by individual states to ensure they meet specific requirements and standards. We also participate in landscape analyses that compare our offerings with those of other leading programs, so educators and districts can make informed choices.
