TCI embraces innovation with one goal in mind: better learning. Through every shift in education technology, we’ve stayed committed to active learning, discussion, and the irreplaceable value of human interaction. That’s the lens we bring to AI as we develop classroom features and resources.

Supporting Human Connection, Not Replacing It

The best learning happens through discussion, inquiry, and human interaction. This shapes how we develop our programs and how we approach AI. We’re not using AI to automate the learning experience. We’re using it to give teachers more time and capacity to engage students and focus on teaching.

Teachers guide the classroom. Students engage and grow. AI works in the background (when you want it).

Addressing Teacher Challenges

Educator feedback guides how we develop our product. TCI is building AI features around these daily challenges:

Differentiation: Every classroom has a wide range of learners. Teachers tell us that differentiation is one of their biggest challenges. TCI is developing AI features to help, including offering a wider range of reading levels and instructional supports for every student.

Remediation: When students struggle, teachers need fast, targeted ways to help them catch up. TCI is developing AI features to help identify where students are falling behind and surface the right supports so intervention happens sooner.

Time constraints: From grading to assessment building, the administrative side of teaching takes a lot of work. TCI is developing AI features to streamline these tasks, so teachers can focus more on their students.

TCI’s AI Framework

As we explored using AI to support educator needs, we recognized the importance of a guiding framework. We consulted established standards for the responsible use of AI in education to inform our approach. This framework guides how we evaluate, build, and refine AI features in our app.

  • Purpose: AI features are thoughtfully designed to save teachers time and improve student outcomes. Features are evaluated regularly to ensure they deliver results for teachers and work as intended for all learners.
  • Access Control: TCI provides district- and teacher-level control to opt into features that display AI-generated content. Other AI features provide essential functionality.
  • Safety: TCI does not use teacher or student data to train AI models. AI features only use the data necessary for personalization. See TCI’s data privacy policy for more about data collection and protection.
  • Transparency: TCI supports labeling and opting in for AI-generated content. AI-generated content is grounded in TCI’s professionally created and standards-aligned materials. Teachers will be able to edit some AI-generated content. We collect feedback on all AI-generated content, and teachers can report any issues to [email protected].

This framework is reviewed regularly and updated as AI and education evolve. Updates will be reflected here.

Preparing Students for a World Shaped by AI

AI is already changing how people find information, evaluate sources, and interact with the world. Students need to be ready for these changes for college, career, and civic life.

As a creator of social studies and science curriculum, TCI is uniquely positioned to help. We’re developing resources to prepare students for the world of AI. We’re also focused on helping students build the skills they need for the future, including evaluating sources and arguments, navigating AI-generated content, collaborating, problem-solving, engaging in civil discourse, and developing critical thinking skills.
