Mapping Japan and the Rest of Monsoon Asia

In this Mapping Lab, students work in pairs to complete a series of geography challenges that spiral in difficulty. First they label a physical map and a political map of Monsoon Asia to learn about the region’s physical and human geography. Then, to answer questions about the region, students simulate the use of geographic information systems (GIS) with thematic maps and transparency overlays. Finally, students follow the steps in the geographic inquiry process (GIP) to interpret a field photograph from the region.  You can learn more about Geography Alive, the program this mapping lab came from, & even try out our digital resources for 30 days.  Are you familiar with Geography Alive mapping labs but want to get the most out of them?  Here is a guide to doing mapping labs inside your class
