All of us at TCI have been watching closely as the state of California has been taking steps to support the use of digital textbooks in the classroom. When the California Learning Resources Network (CLRN) decided to expand their Digital Textbook Initiative to commercial texts with interactive components, we decided to jump in. We submitted our Econ Alive! program and kept our fingers crossed for good news.
Last week we learned that we met all requirements for Phase Three of the Digital Textbook Initiative, and we couldn’t be happier to be part of the movement to give students access to interactive digital texts that will help them learn in new ways. Brian Bridges, Director of CLRN, said, “Phase Three results prove that high-quality, interactive textbooks are in the pipeline and that publishers are working to create media-rich resources that engage students as they master the content standards.” You can find out more about the results of the initiative in Brian’s blog post.
We think the technology that makes our Econ Alive program so interactive will provide more opportunities for students to extend their learning and receive remediation where they need it. It’s also pretty nifty that the scoring manager cuts down on the hours you spend grading while giving you immediate access to your students results!
Are you using any digital textbooks in your classroom? What has your experience been like?
