Aspire Public Schools

Suzy Allione, today’s contributor, is a consultant for TCI and has hellped the Bay Area Aspire schools implement TCI.

Public schools are certainly in the media spotlight recently with a cover story in Time magazine, the release of the film Waiting for “Superman,” and an Oprah episode devoted to outstanding charter schools. We were tickled to learn that Aspire Public Schools was one of six charter schools recognized and given $1 million by Oprah’s Angel Network. (You can watch the recipients learn about this amazing gift in this video clip.)

Headquartered in Oakland, California, Aspire Public Schools has a simple yet ambitious mission: College for Certain. Since founding, 97% of their students have been accepted at a four-year college. Aspire also boasts a #1 ranking in API scores for schools serving low-income communities.

I’m proud to say that many of the Aspire schools  in the San Francisco Bay Area use TCI, especially at the high school level. The administration has told me that the TCI pedagogy just works with urban kids.
