 First Day Lesson Plans

Fellow teachers would like to hear from you. How do you spend the first days of school to set your classroom up for success? What do you do to create a cooperative, tolerant classroom? How do you introduce the Interactive Student Notebook? Join in three conversations taking place on these discussion groups: elementary school, middle school, and high school.

Bert's Blog: Setting Up for Success

The 2008-2009 school year is almost here. In his latest blog, Bert Bower, TCI's CEO and founder, reflects upon how he sets up his classroom for success at the beginning of each school year. Learn about Bert's past experiences and join in the discussion. Bert asks, "What have you done to set expectations for adults outside of your classroom?"

Unveiling the TCI Correlations Database
In June 2008, TCI released its much anticipated state standards correlations database on www.teachtci.com. In the database, you will find over 130 correlations of TCI programs to the state standards of 18 states. We will be continually adding new correlations over the next year as well.

You can access the database through any program page on our site by following these easy steps:

1. Click into "programs" from the top menu bar of the www.teachtci.com home page,
2. Choose any TCI program from the list,
3. Click on "correlations" (located below the product photo in the list just under Table of Contents)

Use the correlation screen to access correlations by state standard or by TCI program. You can view standards correlations for an entire program or by just one chapter in a specific program.

We are excited to be able to offer schools and districts around the country complete correlations to their state standards for so many TCI products. If you do not see a specific correlation, feel free to call our Customer Service team at 800-497-6138, ext. 0.

What do you think of our correlations database?  Join a discussion on this topic on our discussion groups....

Meet Us at Fall Professional Conferences
TCI Trainers are already packing their bags in anticipation of visiting some exciting locations this fall. First on the itinerary is Kentucky to kick off the fall professional conference season. Next is Oregon. Then we'll be in the full swing of things come October, with professional conferences in Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. We are excited for November. The biggest professional conference of all, NCSS, will be held November 12-16 in Houston, Texas.

Please visit our Events page for more details on where you can find us. We can't wait to see you.

It's Never Too Early
As summer winds down and we gear up for another school year, it's time to start thinking about summer 2009. The busiest time of year for TCI Academy, summer is ideal for professional development because teachers are free from the constraints of the classroom. This summer, TCI Academy rolled out over 40 new offerings in topics ranging from content literacy to dynamic American history instruction. Districts mixed and matched sessions to build customized trainings that wowed teachers. You can learn more about all of TCI Academy's offerings at www.tciacademy.com.

And if you're not a planner and summer 2009 seems light years away, consider bringing TCI Academy to your site for a one-day training during the school year. When you select among sessions ranging from two to six hours in length, you can build a day that will inspire teachers and recharge them for the remainder of the school year.
