Ruby on Rails Engineer


Job Description:

  • Developing Ruby on Rails applications

Job Qualifications:

  • 6+ months experience working with Ruby on Rails
  • 3+ years Object-Oriented Programming experience

Database Intern


Job Description:

At TCI, we have software developers continuously improving our K-12 software for teachers and students. All of our software is developed in Ruby on Rails. We are now looking for a database intern to join the team.

The software team follows Agile Development practices and therefore work is delivered quickly in a highly collaborative environment. Team work and communication are highly valued.

This internship offers the opportunity to work in an agile environment while maintaining and managing databases and other related support elements.


TCI Internship Program:

Interns are an important part of the TCI Team. Our interns work on actual projects, right alongside regular employees. Our interns:

  • Maintain a regular part or full-time schedule.
  • Engage in real world assignments and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with their manager and team members.
  • Attend educational sessions (lunch time speaker events, All Staff & team meetings).
  • Have some fun, ask questions, get involved and learn some new things.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write SQL queries in PostgreSQL and Micosoft SQL Server to copy/move data and run reports.
  • Design reports and file structures to support analysis and reporting needs.
  • Standardize commonly run queries to reduce risk of error and increase efficiency.
  • Recommend changes to and creation of new databases and reporting features.
  • Pro-actively review stories and ask questions of Product Manager to ensure reporting and other database needs are being completed.
  • Communicate regularly with all team members to ensure that data is kept clean, re-work is minimized, and content and software goals are being met.

Job Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with postgres and/or Microsoft SQL databases
  • Solid understanding of relational databases
  • Experience working with Agile Software Development a plus
  • Experience working with Ruby on Rails and Git a plus
  • Science or Education background a plus

QA Product Support Internship


Job Description:

This internship offers the opportunity to work in an agile environment while learning software quality assurance and communicating directly with customers.

Interns are an important part of the TCI Team. Our interns work on actual projects, right alongside regular employees. Our interns:

  • Maintain a regular part or full-time schedule.
  • Engage in real world assignments and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with their manager and team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond directly to customer support requests via TCI's ticketing system, UserVoice.
  • Answer customer tech support calls.
  • Pro-actively suggest improvements to the software based on customer feedback and support needs.
  • Develop and run tests to support the quality of software releases.
  • Conduct manual testing prior to each release.
  • Regularly review customer knowledge base and testing procedures to reflect latest releases.
  • Communicate regularly with all team members to ensure that all releases are kept clean, re-work is minimized, and content and software goals are being met.

Job Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills required
  • Familiarity with PC, Mac, and mobile operating systems with a wide variety of browsers including Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, and Safari
  • Pursuing or obtained BS in engineering or computer science
  • Experience writing scripts for automated testing such as Selenium a plus
  • Experience working with Agile Testing a plus
  • Experience working with Ruby on Rails and Git a plus

Science Editor

Contract Position, 32 hours/week


Job Description:

After over 20 years of focusing on social studies curriculum, TCI is creating a unique, ambitious science program. It will be the first national, complete science program aligned with the Framework for Science Education and will include standards-based text, technology, and the TCI lessons our teachers have come to know and love.

The Science Editor will provide science knowledge and assist in the development of student text for six elementary programs (Grades K-5).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review comments from science experts and lead editor and make changes to student text manuscript.
  • Copy fit text according to grade requirements.
  • Ensure text matches TCI writing guidelines including guidelines on considerate text and reading comprehension.
  • Conduct photo research for science student text; write expanded captions for images.
  • Write unit opener, lesson opener and summary pages for lessons.
  • Work with production to create illustrations; provide feedback until illustrations are final.
  • Create assessment questions for science lessons.

Job Qualifications:

  • College or graduate degree in science.
  • College or graduate degree in English or related field.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • At least two years of experience.
  • 6-9 month contract position; 32 hours per week.

Community Support and Social Media Coordinator


Summary:

You will support TCI's community of subscribers by answering customer tickets, offering phone support, and creating dynamic help resources for customers implementing our program. You will also be responsible for improving subscription usage and renewals by engaging our customer community through a variety of communications—social media, web content, and support videos. In addition, you will bring the customer voice into TCI via user experience and customer community groups to help us improve our product and better meet the needs of our customers. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing skills, be active on a variety of social networks, and have outstanding interpersonal communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer support tickets and phone calls to improve subscription activation and useage
  • Monitor and update TCI social networking sites (Facebook Page, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn, Blog, Pinterest...) to engage and grow our fan base
  • Create a consistent stream of fresh, clever, and creative content that engages and educates our user community
  • Assist with developing social media marketing campaigns
  • Partner with internal and external experts to create, produce, and distribute engaging help and support resources on a regular basis
  • Organize and analyze key social and support analytics
  • Be a part of the team and process for creating an exceptional user experience for all TCI users

Job Qualifications:

  • Must have a passion and interest in education

Science Editorial Intern

  • Maintain a regular part or full-time schedule.
