Department Overview

The infrastructure team supports a wide variety of technologies to ensure that both our customers and our staff have access to easy-to-use online software and tools. As a key member of this team, you will evaluate, configure, and upgrade database platforms. (And be a hero in K-12 classrooms for making it so much easier for teachers to teach).


Position Summary

The Database Administrator will work directly with TCI's Controller, Network and Systems Architect, Operations Manager and others to make an impact from day one. A few key projects currently in the works are:

  • Creating seamless integrations between NetSuite, SalesForce, and our own PostgreSQL database to ensure sales, accounting, and support are on the same page
  • Creating reports to understand the usage of up to 1 million students
  • Maintaining and optimizing a cloud based infrastructure

This position is for a driven database administrator who wants to work with a dynamic team that is never satisfied with "good enough".


Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working in databases
  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Linux operating systems (Redhat/CentOS flavor preferred)
  • Experience with NetSuite/SalesForce a plus
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

Travel

Travel between Sacramento and Mountain View offices as needed.

Job Description

  • Generates science illustrations with a hand-rendered look.
  • Collaborates directly with science editors to create highly accurate illustrations, graphics, flow charts, and schematics.
  • Assists senior designer in the creation of graphic collateral to be inserted into TCI's proprietary software system.

Production Intern

About the Position

The Production Intern works closely with both software and content developers to bring new lessons into TCI's online subscription as well as print books and notebooks. Tasks include entering slideshows in an HTML5 tool, entering and designing activities for students to interact with in our online subscriptions, and making design/functionality recommendations to the software team to ensure the best delivery of content.

  • Regularly review customer knowledge base and testing procedures to reflect latest releases.
  • Communicate regularly with all team members to ensure that all releases are kept clean, re-work is minimized, and content and software goals are being met.

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS3
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)

Job Description

  • Provides science expertise and helps with the development of scope and sequence.
  • Helps with the creation of detailed outlines for each lesson.
  • Reviews all physical science student content and ensures it is scientifically accurate and correct; makes editorial recommendations as required.
  • Edits science content and ensures content meets TCI's high level of quality and excellence.
  • Works collaboratively with team of developers to create TCI science reading activities and lessons for grades 6-8.
  • Pilot curriculum under development at local schools to further innovate and shape prototypes.

Job Qualifications

Develop new interactive features including:

  • Physics Subject Matter; BA, BS, or MA, or equivalent, science degree, educational related degree. Science teaching experience at middle school level is highly desired.
  • 1-3 years professional experience including research, teaching, and/or curriculum development, a combination of all three preferred.
  • A deep understanding of NGSS and Framework for K-12 Science highly desired.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in a classroom setting.

Customer Communications and Product Support Intern

Our Product Support team works closely with a variety of teams including software, sales, and accounting. This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment working directly with customers while learning about the innovative and rapidly changing educational technology industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer support requests via TCI's ticketing system, UserVoice.
  • Answer customer support phone calls.

  • Suggest improvements to software based on customer feedback and support needs.
  • Update knowledge base to reflect latest releases and customer questions.

Production Data Entry Clerk

The Curriculum Department is in the process of revising 10 Social Studies programs while creating 5 new programs. The production team supports the creation of these programs by entering content into our online and print resources.


About the Position

The Production Data Entry Clerk works closely with the Production Team to enter TCI's current Flash presentations into our new HTML presentation tool. In the process of entering these presentations, the Production Data Entry Clerk will use basic HTML coding with the potential to expand into HTML5 interactions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Enter content into pre-defined templates
  • Identify any formatting or content issues
  • Report daily on progress and be able to identify any roadblocks

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical staff
  • Familiarity with basic HTML commands
