Since 1989, TCI has created teaching strategies and materials to allow students with diverse learning styles to experience social studies. Through the TCI Approach, developed by middle and high school teachers who thoughtfully combined educational research with the realities of classroom teaching, we have helped New York teachers revitalize their social studies programs. Selecting the best program for your classroom:

TCI offers many programs to fit the diverse needs of schools.   For more information, see the category that best fits your needs.

Elementary – Find complete elementary basal programs with an entire year of curriculum for grades K-5. 

Secondary – Find complete secondary basal programs that you can use from a one-semester to a two-year program, depending on your needs.   Please note that to meet the two-year format for US history, we suggest using History Alive! The United States Through Industrialism at the 7th grade level, and History Alive! The United States at the 8th grade level to provide enough content and material to cover the full scope of US history needed at these two grade levels.

To learn about the State of New York’s Social Studies Standards, please click here then select the specific standard you are interested in.  
 

Potential Funding Sources:

NY State: The New York State Department of Education offers many grants and other forms of funding.  

NY State Textbook Loan: For textbooks, the New York State Department of Education offers textbook loan (NYSTL) funds for purchases.

New York City: New York City offers an online ordering system (FAMIS) that may include NYSTL funds as well as various other funding sources within the New York City Department of Education.  

Federal: Many federal resources may also be available.   Please visit our Funding and Grant Resources page for additional information.
